May Music Mayhem

Why is it that we all get so busy at the worst possible times?

Since I’ve been jet-setting to lavish grunge shows in the most upscale basements of NYC, I hope all my ATLiens have been well and enjoying the fact that KING OF POPS IS BAAAACK (I know I’ve only been here since September, but I quickly caught how important seeing that rainbow umbrella is).

All that aside, summer is almost here (or is it already here? I always figured summer came when it was a steady 75 degrees) and that means there are LOTS of good shows around town. Below are a few upcoming ones!

Wednesday, May 16th at The Drunken Unicorn, Parallels (with Fader Vixen and Ghost Party.
Even the worst of dancers (me) like good, 80s era electronic music to help get over the mid-week hump. Plus, the singer is a total babe and the band has been touring hard, garnering lots of good buzz.

Friday, May 18th at the Masquerade: Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Karbomb.
Where there’s pop-punk, there are The Ramones. But, since we all couldn’t be around when the kings of blue jeans and leather jackets were in their prime, we get the next best thing. Plus, I have a Screeching Weasel tattoo and if you come, I’ll give you a matching one.

ABV Drink + Doodle 13!

HEY Y’ALL!!

THIS WEDNESDAY (February 22), ABV Gallery is hosting its 13th volume of Drink + Doodle, featuring 12 artists who come together and create one-of-a-kind works (which comes in handy because I need new wall art!). I’ll be there at 8PM SHARP to support my wonderful beau, Benjamin Lande, and all the other amazing artists! There will be a DJ + drinks and I may/may not have to smuggle in a 6-pack of Cherry Coke. DO NOT MISS THIS ATL!

ALSO be sure to get there early so you don’t miss the video premier of Greg Mike’s newest addition to Little 5 Points. If you creep around L5P as much as I do, you’ve seen this!

There are tons more gallery shows + events coming up, so check back and make an effort to support all the artists we have in our own backyard + the people who help curate these things!

PS: ABV I’ll be awaiting patiently for my invite for next month’s Drink + Doodle!!

Show Reviews x More Shows x SHOWS OH MYYY

Who says girls can’t like metal?

Monday’s show at The Drunken Unicorn was SUCH a good time! Local ambient/black metal gods Nigredo opened up and blew me away! How amazing to have such talent in our own backyard! The Body and Braveyoung were equally mind-blowing.  It was like being sucked into a swirly, black glittery hole. Hypnotic and heavy, the swells/ominous feedbacks and drones are just what this girl needed, and even got me head-banging along with the crowd (hey, this is what hairspray is for after all!).

Here are a few other February shows that are gonna be bonkers. I hope to meet you all there! But, if that whole “having to work in the morning” thing gets in the way, check these artists out. Some of them make their music right here in Atlanta!

Thursday, February 9th: Colour Revolt (ahhhmazing) with Right Away Great Captain! (a hometown hero, Andy of Manchester Orchestra) and Of the Vine. Colour Revolt has an amazing live show, packed with so much fury and passion that it’s impossible to want to stand in the back with your face buried in your iPhone. Listen to “Moses of the South”–

Sunday, February 19th: A Pop-Punk Extravaganza at Wonderroot. Atlanta denim punkers Campaign with Daytrader (whose debut EP I listened to over 209887 times easily. You can listen to the whole thing too, preferably loud with your hairbrush as your microphone). Also opening are ATL’s The Disregardables and Some Mistakes, who’ve I’ve never seen but I’m excited to hear ‘em.

OH! I am TOTALLY working on another mixtape for stream/free download! If you missed last month’s, I got ya covered. As usual, it will feature some local favorites and I CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE!

Your Favorite KVLT Princess,

PS: I want to thank my FAVORITE unicorn, The Drunken Unicorn for being so awesome and putting on such fun shows. I also think they have the BEST Shirley Temples in all of ATL! <3<3<3 Find me on the Interwebz and keep track of all the fun shows I go to! I promise I have good taste. <3

Tuesday x Cougarettes

Hey Darlins!

I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday! It was SO hard to get out of bed yesterday morning (so I didn’t). I’m almost positive I’m allergic to rain and cold! There is only so much coffee in the world to keep me up and motivated, so I thought I’d share one of my favorite get-up-and-go records with y’all! :)

Enjoy this fun, electro-pop swirly perfection from Cougarettes — a band that sadly broke up recently. Though we’ll never see them live (unless we can convince them to reunite. Cougarettes are you listening? My birthday is soon!), you can buy still buy the vinyl and enjoy it just as much as I do. <3

PS: There are PLENTY of amazing shows coming up in Atlanta! The next few months are going to be crazy/good so keep checking back for updates! :)

Stay warm kitties! =^.^=

The New Girl x Sorry Darlin

Hi Everyone! :)

I’m so excited to start blogging for Sorry, Darlin and join this wonderful group of ladies!  It’s always tough being the new girl in town (I just moved here in September), but everyone has made me feel so welcome and I’m proud to call Atlanta home.

But first! Intros!

I’m Susannah and I help run a record label based out of Montreal, Machette Records. I’ve worked in the music bizz since I was 18 – touring, putting out records, press, the works! Since music is/has always been the foundation of my life, why not write about it here? I’ll be covering local shows and happenings, fun interviews, album reviews, monthly mixtapes – all things glitter and grime! Don’t worry, I’ll most likely include pictures of shoes and candy in all my posts too. ;)

Records n Leopard

A girl is nothing without her records and shoes!

With a new year comes new changes, and I’ve been thinking about challenging myself in SO many different areas (the gym is never going to happen though), but especially ENGAGEMENT. I used to listen to each album I bought obsessively. When I listened, that’s all I would do. There was no texting, no Facebooking or Tweeting. Nothing else! Going to the local record store or rummaging through my own collection used to be a treat, not a chore. It’s easy to think “so what” and go back to running a thousand errands, Starbucks soy latte in hand, idly listening to my iPod on shuffle. I think we’re all like this in some ways (let’s face it, it’s hard work being young entrepreneurs!), but I think we’re losing something. I’m no longer engaging with and having a relationship with music the way I used to. So, that’s one of my (many) challenges to myself this year, and to you! Give yourself time and make the effort to truly connect deeply and completely with the things (and people, duh!) you love.

All that being said, I hope to meet EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU soon! If I’m not at a show, you can find me at:

What better way to consummate our new friendship then by dropping my first monthly mixtape on all y’all! It features some bands/artists I work with and a couple local favorites.  It’s a dreamy, shoegaze-y, haze-y little number. Enjoy <3

Holy Smoke y'all!
